Digital, 2020
by Tim D. Reynolds

print + NFT

In distressful isolation, shielded by our masks and gloves, we conceal our pajama pants with an ironed button-down shirt. This is our new normal. How do we tap into the unpredictable future of spatial distancing? Our new digital world is keeping us in touch more than ever before. This dichotomy of social distancing and our digital world is a paradox. Also, how will personal space ensue? The portraits of cacti— a series of nine images inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop-art impressionism— metaphorically represent all the abrupt changes throughout society. They are stencils depicting the future of Digital, Interior, Mental, Personal, Private, and Public Space. The cacti reflect people either spread apart or enclosed in an intimate focal vision, like a contrast of people’s worlds in and out of their homes. We also adapted Warhol’s screen printing process to our new digital normalcy, utilizing layers in photoshop instead of stencils. The broad range of colors symbolizes the broad range of emotions one may undergo in this time period. The definition in the photos comes out by using the final black and white portrait. Otherwise, everything was applied with painterly brushstrokes that don’t mind going outside the lines. We are using positives, rather than negatives, to bring out the layers of the contrasting stencils.⁣

This altering world paints a new lens for the future of humanity and the physical space between each other. This negativity brings forth positive growth: an opportunity to adapt to our new way of living.
